Why the Debited Amount Is Different from the Original Payment

A disputed charge may differ from the original transaction amount due to several factors.

Scenario	Description	Example
Currency conversion	Exchange rate fluctuations between purchase and dispute initiation alter the converted amount.	In January, a purchase from a business based in Ireland for 100 EUR by a customer in the United States converts to 113.74 USD. In April, the customer disputes the 113.74 USD payment, but the exchange rate has changed, so the chargeback is now 107.86 EUR.
Recurring payments	Banks may consolidate multiple disputed charges from subscription plans into a single dispute against one transaction.	An account owner disputes three $50 recurring charges, but receives a single$ 150 dispute notice.
Partial disputes	The cardholder contests only a portion of the total purchase.	A purchase of multiple products contains a single damaged item, so the account owner files a dispute for only that item.
Partially refunded charges	A partial refund was issued, yet the full original amount is disputed.	A business refunds part of a purchase after the customer reports damage, but the cardholder disputes the entire original amount.
