# Why I Failed Paying Outside Chinese Mainland by Presenting UnionPay App QR Code

> How to switch to non-Chinese mainland payment mode in the UnionPay app for overseas QR code payments.

If your UnionPay QR code payment attempt failed outside mainland China, the issue likely stems from using the wrong QR code format.

To resolve this:

1. Open the UnionPay app.
2. Navigate to **Pay & Receive**.
3. Access **More Settings**.
4. Select **Switch to non-Chinese mainland payment**.

This generates a QR code compatible with transactions outside the mainland region.
