# Create a Card (Card Issuance Flow)

> The merchant dashboard card-issuance flow (opened via Create card in the top right of the Cards list) — choose a card type, then fill in cardholder / card purpose / nickname, choose virtual or physical, and set a spending limit to create a new card.

## What this is

This is the **card-issuance flow page** under the **Cards** module in the merchant dashboard (page title "Create a card"). Opened by clicking **Create card** in the top right of the Cards list page, it's a full-screen form: create a new card in one pass by "choosing a card type -> filling in card details (cardholder / card purpose / nickname) -> choosing virtual or physical -> setting a spending limit." Use this page whenever you need to issue a card to an employee or colleague, or issue a virtual or physical card. A live card-face preview on the right updates as you change the type and cardholder.

> The **X** in the top right closes the page and returns to the previous page without saving; unsubmitted content is discarded. The create-card entry requires the corresponding permission — without it, the "Create card" entry point is not shown.

## Steps

1. On the Cards list page (left nav **Cards** -> top **Cards** tab), click **Create card** in the top right to open the issuance page.
2. **Choose Card Type**: select a card type (the available options depend on which card products are assigned to your account — see "Fields and statuses" below). Each type has a **Virtual** badge; types that support physical cards also show a **Physical** badge, with a line of text below describing that card's purpose. If it shows "No card type has been assigned to your account. Please contact your administrator," your account has no card products available yet — contact your admin.
3. **Select a cardholder**: in the card-details section, use **Search by name or email** to find and select the cardholder. Cardholder entries show a verification-status badge (Verified / Pending / Failed / Incomplete / Invited). If the person isn't on the team yet, click **Invite new team member**, fill in legal first name, legal last name, and business email (phone optional), and send the invitation.
4. **Fill in Card Purpose**: choose a purpose from the dropdown (Business Expenses / Travel Expenses / Marketing Expenses / Team Expenses / Client Expenses / Subscriptions / Online Purchasing / Office Supplies / Other). This is required.
5. **Fill in Card Nickname**: the system auto-generates a nickname based on the cardholder; you can change it, up to 30 characters.
6. **Choose virtual or physical (Card selection)**: defaults to **Virtual**. If the card product supports physical, a **Physical** option appears; choosing physical opens an address picker requiring a **shipping address** for "Ship physical card to" (options: Company Address / Cardholder's Address / Last Delivery Address / a custom address). Note physical cards can only be shipped to countries the product allows.
7. **Set a Spending Limit**: fill in **Card limit** (the overall card limit; leave blank to use the default), **Card currency** (from the currencies the product supports, e.g. SGD/USD/EUR/GBP/HKD), and **Amount** (the per-transaction limit, default 500); **Interval** is fixed to **Per transaction** and cannot be changed. A blue hint below states the default transaction limit for that currency.
8. After reviewing the card-face preview on the right, click **Create Card** in the bottom right. Missing required fields shows "Please fill in all required fields"; success shows "Card created successfully" and returns to the card list.

## Fields and statuses

**Card types:**

| Card type | Purpose |
| ------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| Employee Card | For travel, benefits, and entertainment expenses. |
| Individual Card (Share) / Share card | For personal expenses and online purchases. |
| Individual Card (Single) | For personal expenses and online purchases. |
| Company Card | For marketing, subscriptions, and supplier transactions. |

> **Which types actually appear depends on the card products assigned to your account and visible on the web** — not every merchant sees all four. This is consistent with the terminology on the **Cards** list page: type is **Virtual** or **Physical**; mode is **Single** or **Share**. Whether physical is supported is determined by the card product (if not supported, only "Virtual" is available).

**Cardholder verification-status badges** (shown on cardholder search results):

| Badge | Meaning |
| ---------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Verified | The cardholder's identity has passed verification |
| Pending | Verification is being processed |
| Failed | Verification failed |
| Incomplete | Verification information has not been fully filled in |
| Invited | An invitation has been sent; the person has not yet completed registration/verification |

**Card purpose options:** Business Expenses, Travel Expenses, Marketing Expenses, Team Expenses, Client Expenses, Subscriptions, Online Purchasing, Office Supplies, Other.

**Spending limit fields**:

| Field | Meaning |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Card limit | The card's overall total limit; can be left blank (defaults to the product's default) |
| Card currency | The card's settlement currency; options come from the currencies the selected card product supports (defaults to the product's first currency) |
| Amount | The per-transaction limit, default 500 |
| Interval | Fixed to "Per transaction," not editable |

> The preview on the right shows the selected card type (including virtual/physical), the per-transaction limit and currency, and the cardholder's name.

## Edge cases and troubleshooting

* **Can't see the "Create card" button / can't open the issuance page**: usually means you lack card-issuance permission — ask your admin to assign it.
* **"Choose Card Type" is empty, showing "No card type has been assigned to your account"**: the account has no card product visible on the web yet — contact your admin to assign a card product.
* **No "Physical" option, only virtual is selectable**: the selected card product does not support physical cards — switch to a product that supports physical, or issue a virtual card.
* **Chose physical but the create button won't click**: physical cards require a complete shipping address (country, city, address line 1, postal code) — the button is disabled until the address is complete.
* **"Country is not supported for card delivery"**: the shipping country is outside the product's allowed delivery range — use an allowed address, or switch to a virtual card.
* **Clicking "Create Card" shows "Please fill in all required fields"**: cardholder, card purpose, card nickname, and card product are all required — any missing field blocks submission.
* **Can't find the cardholder**: they're not a team member yet — use **Invite new team member** to send an invitation first (fill in legal first/last name + business email). An already-registered email shows "This email is already registered."
* **Can't type more characters into the card nickname**: the nickname limit is 30 characters.

## Common questions (Q\&A)

* **Q: How do I issue a new card? / Where do I create a card?** A: Click **Create card** in the top right of the Cards list page, then choose a type -> fill in cardholder/purpose/nickname -> choose virtual or physical -> set the limit -> click **Create Card**.
* **Q: How do I issue a virtual card? A physical card?** A: Choose "Virtual" or "Physical" in "Card selection"; physical also requires a shipping address, and the card product must support physical.
* **Q: Why can I only issue a virtual card, with no physical option?** A: The selected card product doesn't support physical cards — switch to a product that does, or issue a virtual card.
* **Q: I can't find the person I want to issue a card to — what do I do?** A: Click **Invite new team member**, fill in their legal first/last name and business email to send an invitation, then select them as the cardholder afterward.
* **Q: Is Card Purpose required? What are the options?** A: Required. Options are Business Expenses, Travel Expenses, Marketing Expenses, Team Expenses, Client Expenses, Subscriptions, Online Purchasing, Office Supplies, Other.
* **Q: What's the difference between Card limit and Amount?** A: "Card limit" is the overall total limit for the card (can be left blank to use the default); "Amount" is the per-transaction limit (default 500, with Interval fixed to per transaction).
* **Q: What's the difference between Employee Card and Share card?** A: Employee Card is for travel/benefits/entertainment expenses; Share card is for personal expenses and online purchases; which types you can choose depends on the card product assigned to your account.
* **Q: How long can the card nickname be?** A: Up to 30 characters; the system also auto-generates a default nickname based on the cardholder.
* **Q: I clicked Create Card and nothing happened / the button is grayed out?** A: Check that cardholder, card purpose, and card nickname are all filled in; if physical is selected, also fill in the complete shipping address.
* **Q: Which countries can a physical card be shipped to?** A: Only countries the card product allows for delivery — the address section on the page lists them; unsupported countries show "Country is not supported for card delivery."
* **Q: It says the cardholder's identity must be verified first when issuing a card — what now?** A: The cardholder must complete identity/KYC verification (see the **Cardholder Verification** page); the verification-status badge shows Verified/Pending/Failed/Incomplete/Invited.
